Spanish keyboard music of the 17th century was idiomatic to say the least. It was characterized by a distinct intermingling of sacred and secular: it is sometimes contrapuntal, like a piece of Renaissance vocal polyphony; sometimes old-fashioned, in the style of a 16th century keyboard piece; and sometimes dancelike or imitative, like the strumming of a guitar. This program is an examination of a bit of that style.

This is a free concert.
